There are hundreds, if not thousands of different directions a person can choose for their career. They can go with a career that requires on-the-job training, with little of no education past high school. Or they can choose to get a Bachelor’s degree either through an on-campus or online model. For those who are truly motivated, however, a graduate degree is the best option for them. With a Master’s degree they are able to distinguish themselves from the millions of people who would otherwise not be able to get the job they are seeking. A clinical psychology masters degree is not for the faint of heart. After going through the undergraduate program, often majoring in a program such as psychology or sociology, a person will then have to apply and be accepted to the masters program. The true studies start during the undergraduate years. This is where hours of dedication to studying, learning, reading and writing will pay off. An average GPA is often too low and will not gain admittance to a graduate program. The program directors are looking for those with great GPA’s in order to know they are only getting the best of the best.
Is A Masters in Clinical Psychology Right For Me?
Once in the program the real studying and learning takes place. During the masters program an invididual must be truly dedicated. This degree becomes a full time job, with a lot of hours of work and dedication required. Studying the coursework, developing hypotheses, and eventually landing an internship are taken up a notch in when going for a masters in clinical psychology. Being prepared is half the battle, and for those who are not ready for this dedication, perhaps taking a year or two to think about the graduate program is in order.
After all the preparation has been done, and the applications have been filed. It is never too soon to start learning. During the summer before the program begins contacting professors and learning the upcoming coursework will give a student the leg-up for the coming school year. After a few years of hard work and dedication, they will be rewarded with a degree. They will now have a clinical psychology masters degree, which allows them to keep interning in a clinical setting. Most states require a number of years of “practice” before a person can be a licensed clinical psychologist. This is the time where the student will really put their best foot forward. They can practice all that they have learned, and use their knowledge. After proving themselves they will finally be able to earn the right to call themselves Clinical Psychologists.
